Apple: iPad 2 launching in 13 more countries

Apple today confirmed that iPad 2 will launch in thirteen more countries in the coming days and weeks. China will get WiFi iPad 2 beginning Friday, May 6. The device will go on sale in Japan on Thursday, April 28, 2011 and in eleven additional countries on Friday, April 29, 2011: Hong Kong, India, Israel, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey and UAE.
iPad 2 will be available at Apple retail stores at 9am local time, Apple said, in addition to select Apple Authorized Resellers. Online sales via the online Apple Store will begin at 1am. Further international availability will be announced at a later date, Apple said. Suggested retail prices in the additional thirteen countries are the same as US price points for WiFi and 3G iPad 2 variants.

iPhone 5 curveballs range from T-Mobile to 4G to metal to actual curves

iPhone 5 curveballs range from T-Mobile to 4G to metal to actual curves

The iPhone 5 is all about the curveballs, from the undocumented release date to whatever tricks up it sleeve Apple has lined up for motivating current and potential iPhone users to plunk down on the new model. And they are potentially aplenty, from the 4G equation, to the T-Mobile question, to whether it might be made of bare metal, to the latest curveball: actual curves. Here's a look at what each of these curveballs would mean if real, and what the fallout would be in each case.

4G iPhone 5: The carriers all want this to happen. It's less clear how much the public wants it, as few understand what 4G is, and among those who do, most are aware that 4G LTE exists in very few places. But as of right now, 4G is the lone feature which competing smartphones can brag about having over the iPhone, at least on paper. Apple could seek to eliminate that potential gap by adding 4G to the iPhone 5 whether many folks will be able to take advantage of it or not.

T-Mobile iPhone 5: With AT&T already having the iPhone, and AT&T in the process of acquiring T-Mobile, it only makes sense that there will be a T-Mobile iPhone eventually. Whether that happens in time for the iPhone 5 release date is another story. But it would make for good television, so to speak, as many T-Mobile customers have made it clear they're not leaving their preferred carrier under any circumstances. So the only way Apple can get them on board is to bring the iPhone5 to them.

Metal iPhone 5: The original mostly-bare-metal iPhone, along with the bare-metal-backed iPad 1 and iPad 2, have only gone to show just how easily scratched and dented bare metal is. As it turns out, the glass used on the iPhone 4 is much stronger and more durable than any metal surface has ever employed – and that's going back to the comically scratchable mirrored chrome backing on various iPod models over the years. Unless Apple has come up with a new metal exterior which isn't absurdly fragile, this does not sound like good news. And whereas the iPhone 4 was the first iPhone which could be kept in perfect condition without a case (unless you're the overly clumsy type), a metal iPhone 5g would sound like the first iPhone in which you absolutely MUST keep it in a case. Fingers crossed that someone made this one up.

Curved iPhone 5 news : First there was talk of the iPhone 5 having rounded edges, which makes sense as the change was made to the iPad 2 review with positive results. Now there's talk that the iPhone 5 screen might also have curved edges. Huh? We'll have to wait til we see it to have an opinion, but the idea of a non-flat touchscreen surface would certainly be out there. Here's more on the iPhone 5 4g.

iPhone 5 era sees AT&T in pole, Verizon close, T-Mobile hanging

iPhone 5 era sees AT&T in pole, Verizon close, T-Mobile hanging

The race to dominate the iPhone 5 era is already underway in earnest despite the fact that the iPhone 5 has yet to gain a release date or a single official feature. Whether it be longtime hanger-on AT&T, shiny new partner Verizon, existence-pending T-Mobile, or even outsider Sprint, the carriers are already jockeying for position to see who's going to be in the pole when it comes time for Apple to launch the iPhone 5 this year. As of today, here are the prospects for the four major U.S. carriers in terms of the position they'll be in at the time the iPhone 5 is ready to reach your hands.

AT&T in pole position: This of course has little to do with who offers the best network or service. At the time the iPhone 5 launches it'll assuredly be available on both AT&T and Verizon. But AT&T has tens of millions of iPhone users already locked into contracts who would have to pay a financial penalty in order to switch to Verizon for their iPhone 5. Some will, but most won't. It's a temporary hold (and a different landscape altogether by the iPhone 6 era), but consider the iPhone 5 release to be AT&T's last hurrah from a position of pure leverage.

Verizon closing in: Verizon is generally perceived to have a superior network to AT&T. But part of Verizon's iPhone 5 problem is that with so many Verizon customers opting for the just-launched Verizon iPhone 4 now, relatively few of them will turn around and replace it with a Verizon iPhone 5. So Verizon is counting on its existing customers switching over from phones like Android or BlackBerry, as well as AT&T defectors – but again, the latter is still an expensive proposition until those two-year contracts begin expiring. Still, the iPhone 5 will bring Verizon closer to parity on the iPhone front than it is currently.

T-Mobile in the balance: Now that T-Mobile is about to become part of AT&T, questions abound as to whether this means T-Mobile will automatically get the iPhone 5 at launch or whether the two will still be sufficiently separate carriers by then such that T-Mobile would need to make a separate deal with Apple. And if it's the latter, would doing so make sense with T-Mobile about to eventually become part of AT&T anyway?

Sprint on the backstretch: On the one hand, Sprint is about to become both the smallest U.S. carrier and the only one without the iPhone – not an ideal combination. But whether that'll motivate Sprint to push Apple for an iPhone 5 deal could depend on Apple's willingness to embrace Sprint's 4G network, which is a core part of the carrier's marketing efforts.

iPhone 5 Jailbreaking

iPhone 5 Jailbreaking

One of the features that many never liked the IOS iPhone 5 Jailbreaking is the fact that Apple does not allow software upgrade without having to connect to iTunes. So, in fact, need to download the new firmware, connect to the computer and wait for the update.

iphone 5 unlock

According to the words of 9to5Mac however, with the introduction of iPhone 5 Jailbreak IOS 5.0 everything should be just a "bad" memory.
5.0 Obviously the same can not be introduced without wires, as unsupported by the current version of IOS, but all his successors should instead take off without having to require a link to your computer.

This seems iOS push beyond its famous closing time, which requires the transition from iTunes to many, if not almost all, functions. In short, taking place a kind of "androidizzazione" of IOS, which is an update that introduces features similar to those of the OS from Google, which allows devices to upgrade the mountain without the need for a PC / Mac.

Of course, this sounds very interesting, if not for the iPhone 5 Jailbreaking fact that updates introduced by Apple always have a sufficiently large weight. For as you have noticed, the firmware for different devices weigh average 500MB or more and make them available over the air "could lead to use of its 3G network really hard. It would be interesting to see what could be the move to Apple about it: If you decrease the size of the updates, or update, allows the cordless, but only in WiFi.

Cloud Storage on the iPhone 5 Could Worsen Data Usage Abuse by AT&T, Verizon

Cloud Storage on the iPhone 5 Could Worsen Data Usage Abuse by AT&T, Verizon

A recent report outlines how AT&T is overcharging iPhone and iPad users on their data usage. Will "iCloud" on the iPhone 5 give mobile carriers like AT&T and Verizon yet another channel for overcharging their customers for data?

few monthly bills cause more stress and consternation than that of a mobile phone bill. With the exception of people who take out the most expensive, flat-rate "Cadillac" plans, phone and data usage is in constant flux for iPhone users, and a lingering fear of being over one's data allotment usually leads to hefty bills that no one likes to pay.

A recent report, however, has shown that AT&T is consistently overcharging all of its iPhone and iPad customers on data usage, suggesting that iUsers are getting fleeced on a regular basis.

The Daily Mail in the UK is reporting today that "AT&T are 'systematically overcharging' up to 20 million Americans who use their iPhone or iPad 2 review to access data on the go, an investigation has uncovered." This investigation has led to a lawsuit against the mobile carrier, "alleg[ing] the phone giant routinely over charges customers between 7 and 14 per cent, and in some cases up to 300 per cent."

The investigation reveals that much of the overcharging is being caused by data transfer that is occurring even when the user is not on the Internet or actively using their iPhone, likening the effect to a "rigged gas pump." This overcharging is apparently happening constantly for some 20 million Americans who use their iPhone on AT&T's network, with all of these incremental data overages adding up to 7%+ higher bills at the end of the month.

AT&T is trying to get out in front of this building scandal, suggesting that this data leakage is caused by apps and functions on the iPhone and iPad that engage in regular, automatic data useage in order to remain constantly updated.

Needless to say, this is an outrage for AT&T iPhone customers, who already pay higher rates for service compared to other mobile carriers, such as Sprint.

Who Is To Blame — AT&T or Apple?

The Daily Mail piece clearly places the blame for this "data leakage" on AT&T, which at this point must be a relief to Apple and Steve Jobs, who have recently been on the defensive over privacy and anti-green allegations. Because AT&T is the one overcharging for the extra data usage on the iPhone and iPad, they are bearing the brunt of criticism and, to our knowledge, Apple is not named as a defendant in the current lawsuit.

However, given the location tracking "bug" recently uncovered on the iPhone 4, it would stand to reason that iPhone users could also begin to ponder whether it is possible that this extra, erroneous data leakage, while being capitalized on by AT&T, might in fact be yet another software design flaw inherrent in the iPhone 4, causing it to transfer data even when not in use.

As this story develops, it is quite possible that Apple will have to issue yet another software update — either on iOS 4 or on the anticipated iOS 5, to further ensure that the data faucet is shut off tightly when users are not on their iPhone or iPad.

Undoubtedly, investigators will also now look at Verizon's data billing on iPhone 4 users, and conspiracy theorists are bound to ask the age-old question, What did Steve Jobs know, and when did he know it? — suggesting that the the data leak was less of a "design flaw" and more of a "malicious feature" meant to aid mobile partners in increasing revenues on data charging.

iPhone 5 and "iCloud" — Yet Another Data Transfer Billing Trap for Users?

The biggest question for the new iPhone 5 speculation society is how this revelation calls into question the well-developed "iCloud" rumor, and whether or not cloud storage on the iPhone5 will lead to yet more abuse of iPhone data usage. After all, if the iPhone 5g makes heavy use of cloud storage and computing, this would mean that users would be transferring data on the fly for a wide range of uses, such as listening to music, videos, photos, business-related documents, and other dynamic media. At present, all of that data remains on an iPhone's on-board storage.

If the next iPhone encourages more data to be stores in Apple's data center, one could speculate that there will be exponentially more opportunity for leaky data transfers to take place.

And as we now know, leaky data transfer is a lucrative leak for carriers like AT&T.

iPhone 5 fire impact up in air as iPad 2, iPhone 4 availability steady

iPhone 5 fire impact up in air as iPad 2, iPhone 4 availability steady

The impact on the iPhone 5 release date, initial availability, and even feature set from this week's factory fire is still up in the air, but the mishap has yet to impact availability of Apple's existing iOS 4 products including the iPad 2 review, iPhone 4, and iPod touch 4. With observers having spent all of 2011 scratching their heads as to just what Apple has up its sleeve for the iPhone 5 after watching the company uncharacteristically release a Verizon iPhone 4 and then a white iPhone 4 precariously close to what most thought would be the calendar end of the iPhone 4 era, the factory fire adds another level of intrigue. By all accounts, Apple has not yet begun manufacturing the iPhone 5, which dovetails with the common-sense assumption that the end-of-April white iPhone 4 means the iPhone 5 is more likely to be a fall than a summer 2011 product. But while factories don't rebuild themselves overnight, Apple's considerable financial resources suggest that it can find another way to get the iPhone 5 to market when it's ready to. Then again, this is the same company which couldn't deliver the original iPhone 4 or the iPad 2 to market in quantity during their respective launches, as evidenced by the fact that the iPad 2 is still up to two weeks backordered after its launch in March. For those who believe that the last minute white iPhone 4 means that the iPhone 5 isn't coming until the fall, easy logic says that Apple plans for the iPhone 5 to be a total revamp; if it were to merely be an unchallenging iPhone 4S, it would have been ready by summer and thus there would have been no April white iPhone 4. In that scenario, does this fire impact Apple's iPhone 5 plans? Doubtful. Apple is going to need a factory to manufacture the next iPhone in regardless, so it's not as if suddenly switching to a less-revolutionary iPhone 5 design would change those prospects. On the other hand, for those who still believe that Apple is about to recklessly launch an "iPhone 5g″ or an "iPhone 4S" at next week's WWDC conference, a mere six weeks after launching the white iPhone 4, the fire would make a bigger impact in that scenario. But common sense says that scenario went away the minute the white iPhone 4 surfaced anyway. So what's the real impact of the mishap on inventory? Keep an eye on iPhone 4 and iPad 2 availability on apple.com in the next few weeks. As of yet their lead times have held steady, as the store burns through in-house inventory. If those numbers begin to slip after existing inventory has been exhausted, then that says that the fire has had a major impact on Apple's ability to get product out the door – and would suggest that Apple will need to find alternate avenues for ramping up for the iPhone5 in the fall if the factory hasn't been repaired by then. But if those ship dates never do slip, then that'll imply that Apple had a Plan B in place already and there's little to worry about. Here's more on the iPhone 5.

How Does AT&T Detect Unofficial iPhone Tethering?

How Does AT&T Detect Unofficial iPhone Tethering?

As we've reported earlier, AT&T continues to clamp down on unofficial iPhone tethering, which is one of the main reasons users jailbreak their iPhone.

There has been a lot of debate and speculation on how AT&T detects the unofficial iPhone tethering. Android Police has provided some insight into how AT&T is able to identify users who are using the unofficial tethering option. Android Police explains:

Jailbroken iPhones typically use the same tethering technique as a standard iPhone, the one that's already present in iOS. This method exposes tethering activity quite readily, because the iPhone, when in tethering mode, sends traffic through an alternate APN (AT&T access point/router) for the express purpose of identifying the traffic as tethered data. This makes it extremely easy for AT&T to identify whether or not an iOS device is utilizing tethering, and just how much of their data is consumed via tethering.

Some tethering applications for iOS make use of alternative methods and route tethered traffic through the phone's normal data APN, but by and large, most jailbreakers stick with the stock application because it's easy to use and doesn't require any complicated setup. In fact, many iPhone users jailbreak for the sole purpose of avoiding AT&T's tethering fees (for why, see next section). These are the people AT&T's is going after.

According to Android Police, popular jailbreak apps such as MyWi and Tetherme use the tethering APN instead of using the normal data APN.

It's not clear if PdaNet that has been updated recently to hide unofficial tethering by masking the packets uses iPhone's normal data APN to go undetected (assuming it does). If PdaNet's solution works then we're quite sure that other developers will soon release an updated version of their jailbreak apps to stay ahead of the cat and mouse game with AT&T.

It is unfortunate that carriers are charging users for the tethering option or don't allow some features or apps to work to use iPhone's 3G data connection (work only over Wi-Fi). Ideally, we should be able to use the data the way we want as we've paid for it.

Apple iPhone 5 Release

Apple iPhone 5 Release

As reported by AppleInsider , Apple is about to change the supplier of its environmental sensors that are integrated into our iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

iphone-5-picture

Unsatisfied of the performance of our devices, environmental sensors (especially the automatic brightness), Apple would have taken in testing new components for the next generation of iPhone.

As reported a few days ago by DigiTimes, Capella Microsystems was in talks with Apple to become an official supplier of components for its devices. That would make the Capella Microsystems, the first Taiwanese company to supply components for the iPhone officially.
The company has sold a month ago about one million of environmental sensors to HTC and now has sent the first test components to Apple, because of complaints from other users about the iPhone's ambient light sensor 4.

If such an agreement would be confirmed, the new sensors would be integrated into non iDevices 1 September 2012.
We will keep you updated.

Further Indication iPhone 5 Release will be Q4 2011

Further Indication iPhone 5 Release will be Q4 2011

It's a rumor which has been around since Apple officially announced the date for WWDC 2011, and now Reuters have added further fuel to the fire.  We're talking about the next generation of iPhone not being released soon after the conference as has been the tradition, but in September instead.

Quoting a trio of individuals with 'direct knowledge of the company's supply chain', the report says production of the iPhone5 won't begin until July or August, leading to a September shipping date. This ties in with the previous rumors suggesting a Q4 release for the phone, which given Apple's preference for short lead times indicated a late Q3/early Q4 announcement.  Why they've decided to extend the life of the iPhone 4 this time isn't known, but it could be down to many things:

  1. The White iPhone 4.  It's still supposed to be on its way, don't forget!
  2. iOS 5.  Perhaps the new software isn't quite ready?
  3. Supply Problems.  Touchscreens, new camera lenses etc.
  4. A change in Apple's release structure across the board.

A September onwards release date should please a few people though, as anyone with an 18-month iPhone 4 contract will be a few steps closer to upgrading to the fifth model than expected!

Reuter's sources also say the iPhone 5 won't look all that different to the iPhone 4, something many have also suspected.  If the design doesn't change, the good news is all those iPhone 4 cases won't be useless; unlike any iPad 1 cases you may have…

Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference will take place between the 6th and 10th June 2011.

Want to know the iPhone 5 release date or the real story on the thickness of the white iPhone 4? Ask local retail store employees from Apple and AT&T and you'll get surprisingly frank answers, although the accuracy of those answers may be suspect at best. In my attempts to replace my black iPhone 4 with a white one today, I visited an Apple Store and then, after it turned out the place was all out of AT&T white iPhone 4 models, an AT&T Store. They were both in the Los Angeles area, but I won't say which stores specifically so as not to get these low level employees in trouble for what they said. First, it was the very real revelation about the white iPhone 4 from an Apple employee, and then it was a rather odd claim about the iPhone 5 from an AT&T employee. Let's talk white iPhone 4 first.

With all the various claims out there that the white iPhone 4 is a tiny fraction thicker than the black iPhone 4, I wanted confirmation before I bought one. My concern was that as I frequently use a third party battery case when leaving the house for extended periods of time (Beatweek's 2010 iPhone battery case of the year, the Mophie Juice Pack 4, if you're wondering). In short, if the white iPhone 4 was too thick to fit into my favorite battery case, I didn't want it. After all, if I'm going to make as shallow of a move as to replace one iPhone 4 with another iPhone 4 purely for color reasons, I should at least first make sure I'm not going to screw myself out of being able to use one of my most-often used accessories. The white iPhone 4 display units at the Apple Store are tethered for security reasons, which meant I couldn't use one of them to make sure it still fit into my battery case. But one employee who was brave enough to admit to me that the white iPhone 4 is in fact thicker than the black model, was kind enough to track down a loose white iPhone 4 within the store. Upon testing it with my battery case we found that it did fit, but just barely. If nothing else this puts to bed the fact that the white iPhone 4 is in fact thicker than the black, and again, just barely. That supposed Twitter direct message from Phil Schiller about them both being the same thickness is, even if it's really from him, simply not accurate. In any case the store was sold out of the white iPhone 4 model I wanted, so I left empty handed, but knowing for sure that I wanted one. On the way home I passed and AT&T Store and stopped in to take a crapshoot as to whether they might have the one I wanted in stock. They did. But then the iPhone 5 oddly became part of the conversation, and not because I brought it up.

By buying a white iPhone 4 now, most folks are setting themselves up to have to pay more for the iPhone 5 when it arrives, thanks to the magic of upgrade pricing. While it's not worth explaining here, my situation is different. But the AT&T Store employee who was selling me a white iPhone 4 to replace my black iPhone 4 must have felt sorry for what he thought I was about to do to myself, and said something along the lines of "You know there's another new iPhone coming in the summer or the fall, right?" He didn't say "iPhone 5″ but he didn't have to. Here's the odd part: there's no way he had any official information as to Apple's super-secret plans regarding when it'll release the iPhone 5. He was probably just repeating back what he'd read online. But why on earth was an AT&T employee trying to talk me into waiting for the iPhone 5? Like I said, I probably just caught him off guard when he saw me replacing one iPhone 4 with another iPhone 4, and he was trying to be more helpful than his employers would likely prefer. The truly odd part is that he seemed to think, for whatever presumed reason, that the iPhone 5 might still come this summer despite the fact that summer is six weeks from now and the white iPhone 4 just went on sale. Like I said, I guarantee this guy has no official inside information about the iPhone 5. Just as the guy at the Apple Store probably didn't really know for sure that the white iPhone 4 is thicker than the black model until I helped him prove it before his own eyes, but he'd heard enough already to assume it was true. But it's all worth sharing nonetheless, if only to gain perspective on how the low-level employees on the inside of the food chain are viewing all of this. Here's more on the white iPhone 4 and iPhone5.

iPhone 5 News

iPhone 5 News

The next generation iPhone 5 is due to launch this summer and to help you get to grips with what to expect, here is the latest iPhone 5 news.

There are some reports that are claiming that the iPhone 5 handset will get a totally new design but this is just a rumor at the moment.  What we do know, is that the iPhone 5's internals will be different.  The new iPhone 5 is going to run on a new combined CDMA/GSM/UTMS chipset from Qualcomm that will in the US support both AT&T and Verizon along with various other carriers worldwide.

When it comes to iPhone 5 news that details are minimal.  According to reports the new iPhone 5 is currently being tested by Apple's senior staff but even these people aren't giving out details and the only thing they seem to be saying is that it is a complete redesign.

iPhone 5 To Support NFC

The new Apple iPhone 5 is said to support NFC (near field communication).  This is the same technology that is being used in the Nexus S using the latest Android 2.3 release.  This chip will allow for data exchanges between two devices and it could also be used to form the basis for mobile payments.  Apple might be building a mobile wallet of sorts and there are rumors of iBuy, iCoupons and iPay apps being developed.

iPhone 5 to Have Cloud iTunes

In April 2010 Apple acquired Lala.com which is a cloud based music streaming service.  What this means for the iPhone 5 could be that Apple is looking at giving iPhone 5 users the ability to purchase, download and even stream music from their phones for a monthly fee without the need for desktop software.

Facial Recognition For The iPhone 5

Another thing that you might see happening with the new iPhone 5 is the possibility that Apple is going to introduce facial recognition to improve their desktop products.  These include iPhoto and Aperture.  By integrating facial recognition into the iPhone 5 this could prove to be very beneficial and you will be able to have a phone that actually knows who you are.

That is about all we have when it comes to iPhone 5 news / iPhone 5 Pictures but you can be sure that there will be plenty more released in the upcoming months as the iPhone5 launch date draws ever near.

iPhone 5 synchronized release to erase white iPhone 4 thickness debate

iPhone 5 synchronized release to erase white iPhone 4 thickness debate

The iPhone 5, whatever it ends up looking like, will debut in synchronized fashion across its various carriers and in available color choices, putting to bed the disjointed iPhone 4 era in which the original arrived in the summer, the Verizon iPhone 4 variant in the winter, and the white iPhone 4 option in the spring. These moves were made out of necessity, as the Verizon wasn't contractually do-able any sooner, and the white model had been delayed due to production issues. One way or the other, we'll see all the iPhone 5 has to offer one day one unless something unexpected goes wrong. And that's good news, because the staggered iPhone 4 rollout has led to not only a disjointed iPhone lineup, but a disjointed perception of the lineup as well. In fact one need look no further than the debate, still unsettled, as to whether the white iPhone 4 really is thicker than the black model.

Apple, unofficially at least, claims they're the exact same thickness – but that's based on a private Twitter message attributed to Apple's Phil Schiller, far from something that can be considered an official company statement. Consumer Reports has claimed that they're the same thickness, but these are the same dumbasses who helped perpetrate the phony iPhone 4 antenna controversy, meaning that not only can they not be taken seriously with regards to anything they say about the iPhone, it's the to the point that the opposite is almost instinctively assumable. Meanwhile, all across the internet users have posted side by side photos which prove that the white and black iPhone 4 models are in fact of different thicknesses. And in our own in-house experience here, it's clear that the new white one is thicker than the old black one, based both on a side by side visual comparison and based on the ease with which eats fits into tight-fitting iPhone 4 cases left over from the black iPhone 4 era. The funny part is, though, that after a few days of usage, the difference in thickness appears to be shrinking between the two, which leaves us questioning our original diagnosis: after all, our tests were between a brand new white iPhone 4 and an older, used black iPhone 4. It's not the overall product which is thicker, but instead simply the ridge around the edges of the front and rear surface which make it thicker. And after a few days of use, those ridges have apparently worn down just a tiny bit – which would explain why the white model initially appeared to be obviously thicker than the black one but now not so much. Case solved? We're still looking into it.

But the bottom line is that Apple opened itself up to these kinds of situations, whether it be the white iPhone 4 thickness debate or the fact that manufacturers have had to release separate versions of many of their iPhone 4 accessories to accommodate the Verizon iPhone 4 model, by staggering the iPhone 4 lineup with a disjointed collection of hardware models. Even the slight differences have been enough to upset Apple's typically tightly cohesive ecosystem within each generation. And with the iPhone 5 later this year, Apple gets to hit the reset button and not only make all the iPhone 4 disjointedness go away, but also to put all of its iPhone 5 cards on the table up front so there's no mistaking what users are getting. Here's more on the white iPhone 4 and iPhone5.

The White iPhone Hero

The White iPhone Hero

An interesting and somewhat funny piece of information that iDB reader @EpicGameReviews sent us about the white iPhone 4. If you go to Apple's website, right click on the image of the white iPhone 4 on the homepage, and select "view image" or "image info", you will see how Apple named the image: white_iphone_hero_20110425.jpg.

Does Apple really consider the white iPhone 4 as a hero? I highly doubt it. Does Apple web team have a funny sense of humor? Most likely…

UPDATE: Thanks iDB readers for pointing out how ignorant I am. I had absolutely no idea what a hero shot was until today. But hey, to my defense, I'm French and I'm still learning English everyday. Especially today </embarrassed face>It's always nice to see larger companies joking around a little bit.

What says you?

Apple Cut iPhone 4 Orders, Making Room For iPhone 5 (4S)

Apple Cut iPhone 4 Orders, Making Room For iPhone 5 (4S)

Apple is getting closer to revealing more about the new iPhone 5 aka iPhone 4S because it is about to cut iPhone 4 orders, hopefully the new smartphone will be announced at WWDC in June.

Digitimes have heard by supply chain manufacturers from Taiwan that iPhone 4 orders in the second quarter of 2011 will be dropped from 20-million to 18-million with most of them made up of 3G models, 2-million of them will be CDMA units.

Apparently there are 2 million iPhone 4 units floating around the market at the moment and because the new iPhone 5 (4S) is coming soon with better features such as new camera, new processor etc they need to make room and have enough time on their hands to produce the new handsets.

The new iPhone5 also known, as the iPhone 4S will release in September, all speculation of course as no official announcement has been made. Cannot see it being that much different to the current iPhone 4 other than a few minor updates, time will tell when WWDC 2011 kicks of in June.

Please visit ITProProtal for more information; we would love to know what your views are on the next-generation iPhone.

iPhone 5 release date obliterated as factory burns, iPad 2 up in smoke

iPhone 5 release date obliterated as factory burns, iPad 2 up in smoke

Whatever chance the iPhone 5 had of seeing a release date in June on the heels of the white iPhone 4, those odds just went up in smoke – literally – in an unfortunate explosion and fire at the factory where Apple has its iOS devices manufactured. As a result, iPad 2 inventory is expected to once again fall behind demand after Apple initially struggled to keep up after the March launch and had just recently caught up to the point where an iPad 2 review would ship to a customer a week or two after it was ordered. But while the exact impact on iPad 2 availability remains to be seen, this should put to bed the pipe dream that saw Apple somehow introducing the iPhone5 a mere six weeks after first shipping the white iPhone 4. The lack of any reports about iPhone 5 manufacturing being underway at such facilities (this kind of news always leaks) already made it clear that Apple wasn't about to attempt the PR-suicide stunt of ending the iPhone 4 era a month and a half after it launched a new iPhone 4 model. But even if Apple were planning to secretly launch the iPhone 5g in June, those plans would certainly have to be scuttled after the factory damage. If nothing else, those who've been holding out hope a soon-arriving iPhone 5 will now be able to erase any doubt and weigh their actual options: buy an iPhone 4 now or wait for awhile longer before Apple announces what comes next. The cautious among us will likely still opt to wait another two weeks to see what Apple does with its early June WWDC Keynote. But even if there were a surprise iPhone 5 4G or even iPhone 4S (whatever the heck that's supposed to be) planned for June 6th, Apple wouldn't be able to ramp up from zero inventory at this point in time for such a launch; it'll have a difficult enough time maintaing inventory levels of the already-shipping iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Our revised advice: if you've been meaning to pick up an iPad 2 but haven't gotten around to it yet, hurry before they suddenly get harder to find for awhile. And our iPhone buying advice hasn't changed: the arrival of the white iPhone 4 made it clear that the iPhone 5 won't come until late summer or fall, and while either option is defensible, it's difficult to ask someone to wait for a phone whose release isn't known beyond the fact that it isn't soon, and whose features are at this point still a blank slate. Here's more on the iPhone 5 news.

iPhone 5 Release or iPhone 4S Release

iPhone 5 Release or iPhone 4S Release

Does the speculation over when the iPhone 5 will see the light of day ever stop? Earlier we posted an article which claims the next generation iPhone is delayed until October, and now we have a claim that according to certain analysis that the iPhone5 or iPhone 4S whichever it turns out to be will release in June/July rather than September.

According to an article over on Online Social Media, by way of iClarified, Andy Zack of Seeking Alpha claims that analysis of Apple's quarterly guidance apparently reveals, " Apple will release the next iPhone in June/July rather than in September."

Apparently during the Q2 conference call Peter Oppenheimer, Apple CFO said, "We expect OpEx [operating expenses] to be about $2.5 billion, including about $255 million related to stock-based compensation expense."

However according to Zack "Oppenheimer might as well have said, "Despite what you might hear on Wall Street, we expect the iPhone 5 4G to be released in late June or early July as planned."

Why Oppenheimer's statement translates into a "late June or early July" release for the iPhone 5g escapes me, but one thing is for sure, the iPhone 5 apple/4S will release only when Apple confirms it will release, and all else is simply speculation, but it does get somewhat confusing at times don't you agree?
